HP, Hewlett-Packard, has finally introduced a production-ready commercial 3D printer and hopes to take lead in the market. The device is called the HP Jet Fusion 3D Printing Solution & comes in 2 models which will enter the market later in early 2017 starting at $130,000.
HP CTO Shane Wall says, “This is not a conventional 3-D printing play. You’ll buy a digital design, and then customise it as you like, and then print it out instantly.” He adds that it’s part of a $12 trillion global market for manufacturing.
HP has also launched a collaboration program aimed at developers and companies who want to create custom or specialized applications for the technology. They are also seeking partners to help them explore expanding the range of materials that can be used with the Jet Fusion system.
HP is still finalising the model design which is an expensive process.
