WhatsApp will be discontinued on BlackBerry and Nokia phones by 2017

Last Updated on December 14, 2020

WhatsApp on Friday, 26th February, announced that they will cease support for the following mobile platforms by the end of 2016

  • Blackberry including Blackberry 10
  • Nokia S40
  • Nokia Symbia S60
  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  • Windows Phone 7.1

The company stated that these platforms do not offer the kind of capabilities they needed to expand their app’s features in the future. They recommend that affected users should upgrade to a newer Android, iPhone or Windows phone before the end of 2016 to continue using their app.

I believe this is a very serious drawback to users on Blackberry phones. Since Blackberry 10 builds have been forked to use Android apps and games, i think they should be taking out of this list. Take a look at Blackberry latest flagship last year, Priv. Priv is already on the list of 2017 abandoned smartphone for WhatsApp.
